Congress intensifies preparation for forthcoming Uttarakhand polls
New Delhi, July 9 (IANS) Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on Thursday intensified the party’s preparations for the upcoming Uttarakhand Assembly elections, holding a series of “in-depth meetings with leaders across all levels of the organisation.”
As part of his ongoing tour of election-bound states, Venugopal chaired discussions with senior leaders, legislators, former MLAs, heads of frontal organisations, District Congress Committee chiefs, and City Congress presidents, he said on his X handle.
He also convened the crucial Political Affairs Committee of the state, underscoring the party’s determination to streamline its strategy well ahead of the polls.
Venugopal’s engagements in Uttarakhand were aimed at assessing the readiness of the Congress machinery and ensuring coordination from the grassroots to the state leadership.
According to him, the exercise was not merely a review but a comprehensive dialogue to energise the cadre and align them with the party’s broader electoral vision.
He emphasised that the Congress is committed to working in unison from the booth level to the mandal and state level, leaving no gap in organisational preparedness.
In his remarks, Venugopal pointed to what he described as “widespread anger” among the people of Uttarakhand against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He asserted that the Congress would channel this sentiment into a strong electoral performance, promising that the party would “certainly register a strong victory in the upcoming elections.”
His statement indicates the confidence within the Congress leadership that the prevailing discontent could translate into political gains if harnessed through disciplined campaigning and united effort.
The Uttarakhand visit forms part of Venugopal’s larger tour of states headed for elections, a mission designed to personally oversee preparations and strengthen the organisational framework. By engaging directly with leaders at multiple tiers, the Congress hopes to avoid factionalism and present a cohesive front to voters.
The meetings also signal the party’s intent to sharpen its attack on the BJP, highlighting issues of governance and public dissatisfaction as central themes of its campaign.
