New Delhi, July 7 (IANS) Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government has reconstituted the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), which was paralysed by top-level vacancies for nearly three years.

Through a notification issued by the Department of Women and Child Development, the government has reconstituted the Commission by appointing one Chairperson and four Members, said an official statement.

These appointments have been made in exercise of the powers conferred under the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, 2008, and the relevant notification issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

According to the notification, Om Prakash Vyas has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Rahul Gautam, Kundan Kanskar, Swati Gupta and Monika Sharma have been appointed as Members of the Commission, the statement said.

All appointments will take effect from the date the respective appointees assume office. Each appointee will serve a term of three years. However, if the prescribed age limit is attained before the tenure ends, the term will end on that date. The maximum age limit is 65 years for the Chairperson and 60 years for the Members, the statement said.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that every child deserves a safe, dignified childhood filled with opportunities.

She said that protecting children’s rights remains the Delhi Government’s highest priority. Strengthening the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights is an important step in that direction.

She expressed confidence that the Commission’s new leadership will work with sensitivity, transparency and responsibility to ensure the effective protection of children’s rights.

She added that the government remains firmly committed to safeguarding the interests of every child and supporting their holistic development.
