New Delhi, July 5 (IANS) New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Sunday led a tree plantation drive at BD Park in B.K. Dutt Colony as part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative on Sunday campaign, an official said.

Under the “Good Governance at Your Doorstep” initiative, Chahal also interacted with resident welfare associations (RWAs) and local citizens and directed them to ensure prompt and timely resolution of public issues, the official said in a statement.

On this occasion, Chahal said that this is the 31st consecutive Sunday of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign launched under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the aim of transforming environmental protection into a mass movement through public participation.

He added that in addition to the weekly campaign, large-scale tree plantation drives are also being organised by the NDMC in collaboration with universities, various embassies, and other institutions.

Appreciating the growing public participation, Chahal commended the dedicated efforts of Team NDMC, noting that such collective efforts are playing a crucial role in making New Delhi greener, cleaner, and more environmentally friendly.

At the event, RWA President Harbans Dunkal; H.S. Singh, representative of Guru Singh Sabha; S.S. Chauhan, Narendra Vinayak, Madan Bhutani, representatives of Sanatan Dharma Sabha; Ashok Chitkara, representative of Brahma Kumaris; Deepak Vohra, Vinod Gill of Arya Samaj; representatives of Valmiki Samaj, along with various RWA officials and a large number of local citizens planted saplings in the name of their mothers.

Participants praised the campaign, noting that it connects emotional values with environmental protection and inspires society to fulfil its responsibility towards nature.

Inspired by Prime Minister Modi, the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign encourages every citizen to plant a tree in honour of their mother and establishes a strong emotional connection between environmental protection and public participation.

NDMC Vice Chairman said, “‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ is not just a tree-planting campaign, but a mass movement of emotional and social responsibility. By planting a tree, we not only pay tribute to our mother and Mother Nature but also lay a strong foundation for a secure future for next generations.”

He added that that merely planting trees is not enough; their regular protection, irrigation, and care are equally important.

He urged citizens to take responsibility for the saplings they plant and protect them until they become trees.

Chahal told that the NDMC has prepared a year-long Green Calendar, under which tree-planting drives will be organised every Sunday in various areas of New Delhi.

“The Departments of Horticulture, Health, Civil Engineering, Sanitation, Roads, Water Supply, Drainage, and Electricity will work together to ensure proper care and healthy growth of these trees,” the NDMC Vice Chairman said.

During the event, RWA representatives and local residents presented various civic and local issues related to the colony to Chahal.

He held detailed discussions with the relevant department heads on the spot and directed for prompt and timely resolution of all problems and assured the citizens of necessary action.

He said that such efforts are important steps towards achieving the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’, where a clean environment, sustainable civic infrastructure, and public participation will form the main pillars of nation-building.

Senior officials from the Health, Civil Engineering, Roads, Water Supply, Drainage, and Electricity departments, along with field staff and a large number of local citizens were present on the occasion.
