Karnataka SIR: Over 50 pc enumeration forms distributed in five days

Bengaluru, July 4 (IANS) Amid the controversy, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka has gathered pace, with more than half of the Enumeration Forms (EFs) distributed to voters within the first few days of the house-to-house verification exercise, according to data released by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Karnataka.

The house-to-house enumeration is being carried out from June 30 to July 29, 2026, while the digitisation of the forms will also continue during the same period.

According to the latest progress report, a total of 2,78,21,970 Enumeration Forms, accounting for 50.19 per cent of the total electors, have been distributed across the state.

As many as 6,352 polling stations (10.76 per cent) have completed 100 per cent distribution of Enumeration Forms, while 5,538 polling stations (9.38 per cent) have achieved more than 90 per cent distribution.

On the digitisation front, 17,88,330 Enumeration Forms have been digitised so far, representing 3.23 per cent of the total electorate. Two polling stations have completed 100 per cent digitisation, while seven polling stations have crossed the 90 per cent mark.

The CEO’s office also said that 77,624 electors, or 0.14 per cent of the electorate, have submitted their Enumeration Forms online.

During the verification process, Booth Level Officers have identified 28,611 electors under the ASDDO (absent, shifted, dead and duplicate) category. In addition, 433 electors were found to be untraceable or absent, 11,697 had permanently shifted their residence, 13,859 were reported deceased, 2,461 were found to have already been enrolled elsewhere, while 161 cases were categorised under other reasons.

As per the electoral roll as on June 16, 2026, Karnataka has a total of 5,54,32,314 registered electors. The Enumeration Forms have been printed and supplied to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for the ongoing revision exercise.

The Election Commission is conducting the Special Intensive Revision to verify and update the electoral rolls through door-to-door enumeration and digital processing of Enumeration Forms before the publication of the revised electoral roll.

It can be noted that Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday criticised the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka, alleging that the electoral exercise lacks credibility and demanding that the entire process be scrapped.

The Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit has lodged a complaint with the State Election Commission and demanded a fresh SIR of electoral rolls wherever discrepancies are being reported.
