J&K: Police arrest three in Bandipora, charas recovered

Srinagar, July 4 (IANS) Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday said it has arrested three persons after recovering a huge quantity of ‘Charas’ (marijuana) from them.

A police statement said today that continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking, police in Bandipora achieved a major success by apprehending three drug peddlers and recovering a substantial quantity of contraband during naka checking in the Hajin area.

Besides, police arrested a drug peddler in Sopore and recovered a contraband substance from his possession.

During a naka-checking at Madwan, a police party from Police Station Hajin noticed suspicious movement by three individuals who attempted to flee but were tactfully apprehended. During the search, 4.090 kg of a charas powder-like substance was recovered from their possession.

They have been identified as Sayar Ahmad Malla, son of Abdul Rahim Malla, resident of Madwan; Mehraj Ud Din Hajam, son of Ghulam Mohammad Hajam, resident of Madwan; and Aamir Tariq Ganie, son of Tariq Ganie, resident of Bangar Mohalla, Hajin.

In this regard, Case FIR No. 87/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Hajin. All three accused have been arrested, and the recovered contraband has been seized in accordance with legal procedure.

Further investigation is underway.

Moreover, in Sopore, police apprehended a drug peddler during patrolling at Butpora, Sopore. During search, a charas-like substance was recovered from his possession and seized in accordance with due legal procedure.

The accused has been identified as Aaqib Rasool Sheikh, son of Ghulam Rasool Sheikh, resident of Shahabad, Sopore.

Accordingly, a case FIR No. 166/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Sopore, and further investigation has been taken up.

Police remains committed to eradicating the menace of drugs from society and appeals to the general public to cooperate with the police by sharing any information related to drug peddling or other unlawful activities.
