New Delhi, June 29 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Monday that her Cabinet has approved the Delhi EV Policy 2026, which is likely to come into force from July 1 and remain effective till March 31, 2030, to promote Zero Emission Vehicles.

She said the Policy envisages direct government investment of over Rs 7,000 crore over the next four years for upgrading infrastructure, and tax waivers and incentives worth Rs 8,000 crore will be passed on to EV users.

“Overall benefits of approximately Rs15,000 crore, including tax exemptions and EV infrastructure, will accrue to citizens,” she announced, adding that the policy will come into force after formal approval by Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

“The main objective of the policy is to make Delhi a pollution-free and clean transport capital by promoting Zero Emission Vehicles and help the Capital become a Smart City,” she said.

Under the policy, all pure EVs will receive 100 per cent road tax and registration fee waiver. For four-wheelers, vehicles with an ex-showroom price of up to Rs 30 lakh will be eligible, said a statement.

Chief Minister Gupta said that the policy aims to offer benefits to all types of vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, light goods trucks, and grameen Seva vehicles.

She said the policy pays attention not only to encouraging the purchase of EV vehicles but also to scrapping and EV charging infrastructure.

“The subsidies have been devised in a manner to bridge the cost gap between normal vehicles and EVs,” she said.

Chief Minister Gupta congratulated Cabinet Ministers Pankaj Kumar Singh, Ashish Sood and Manjinder Singh Sirsa for taking into account the views of all stakeholders.

“They took care of all concerns to the extent that the policy could revamp the city’s transport landscape,” she said.

According to a study relied upon by the Delhi government, 33 per cent of vehicular pollution in the city comes from commercial vehicles and 46 per cent from two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
