Trinamool’s defeat was necessary to unmask traitors hidden in party: Kunal Ghosh

Kolkata, June 29 (IANS) Trinamool Congress legislator and journalist-turned-politician, Kunal Ghosh, who boasts of his continued political allegiance to former West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, on Monday stated that the landslide defeat of his party in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly polls was necessary to unmask the hidden traitors within the party.

Clearly targeting the “rebel majority” faction within the Trinamool Congress legislative party in the West Bengal Assembly under the leadership of expelled party legislator, Ritabrata Banerjee, Ghosh, the party’s state spokesman, said that had not his party faced the landslide defeat this time, the real face of such traitors would not have been revealed.

“On 4 May I felt bad after the Trinamool Congress government was defeated. My personal victory in Beliaghata Assembly Constituency did not give me much joy either. But today it seems that what happened was for good,” Ghosh said in a social media post this morning.

In the same breath, he explained why he now felt that the defeat of his party was necessary.

According to him, if the Trinamool Congress had won, these traitors would have surrounded Mamata Banerjee as supporters.

“Those who are opportunists would have mingled with us by pretending to be friends. Some thieves, who are pretending to be saints now to save themselves, would have stolen more without any kind of restraint. The arrogance of some of the party leaders would have increased. Some criminals, who entered the party, would have oppressed their opponents excessively, not sparing even a section within the Trinamool Congress.

“Some non-political celebrities would have unnecessarily been part of the political dais and taken advantage of the public representatives. A section of police, bureaucrats, intellectuals, industrialists, and semi-intellectuals would have pretended to further their own fortunes,” Ghosh observed in his social media post.

He also said that because of the excesses of these masked groups within the party, the dedicated party workers, organizers, and well-wishers would have been ignored and would have felt suffocated within the party, had the Trinamool Congress won the elections.

“The results of this election might have thrown our party out of power. But the results have helped clean up the accumulated garbage. With Mamata Banerjee at the top, the genuine and dedicated workers, who truly love the party, will help Trinamool Congress to continue with its fight. The accumulated fat within the party had started dripping, even though it is going through a seemingly bad phase. The test of time is strengthening the party for the future.

“After all, it takes courage to stand against the power-oriented opportunist political wave. People are watching. Their judgment would be the last word,” Ghosh added.
