NEET re-exam in Tamil Nadu ends smoothly; students find Physics section toughest

Chennai, June 21 (IANS) The NEET retest for undergraduate medical admissions concluded smoothly across Tamil Nadu on Sunday, with students stating that the Physics section was the most challenging part of the examination, while Biology was comparatively easy and straightforward.

Around 1.42 lakh candidates appeared for the examination across the state, which was conducted under tight security arrangements following the cancellation of the earlier NEET examination due to allegations of question paper leakage.

The retest was held simultaneously across the country at nearly 5,500 centres located in 551 cities and concluded at 5.15 p.m.

Students emerging from examination centres said they had expected a much tougher paper because it was a retest ordered after the controversy surrounding the original examination.

However, many felt that although the questions appeared simple at first glance, the paper was not entirely easy.

K. Arun Prakash, a NEET aspirant from Chennai, said the Biology section was the easiest among the three subjects.

“Most of the Biology questions were direct and syllabus-based. Chemistry was moderately difficult, but Physics required much more time and concentration,” he said.

According to candidates, the Physics section contained several analytical and numerical problems that demanded careful calculation, making it the most time-consuming portion of the examination.

Chemistry featured a mix of conceptual and application-oriented questions, while Biology was considered scoring by a majority of students.

Many candidates also compared the retest with the cancelled examination and said the earlier paper had been relatively easier.

“We expected the retest to be extremely difficult because of the circumstances under which it was conducted. While it was manageable, it was definitely more challenging than the previous examination, especially in Physics,” said another candidate.

Students welcomed the additional 15 minutes provided for the examination, saying it helped them review answers and manage their time effectively.

Nevertheless, officials and parents waiting outside centres observed that a large number of candidates completed the examination and submitted their answer sheets before the scheduled closing time.

The examination passed off peacefully across Tamil Nadu without any major disruptions.

Authorities maintained strict security measures at centres, including enhanced surveillance and verification procedures, to ensure the integrity of the test.

With the retest now over, candidates are awaiting the release of the provisional answer key and further announcements from the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding the evaluation process and declaration of results.
