Hyderabad, June 17 (IANS) A court in Hyderabad on Wednesday remanded Sunkari Narahari, Deputy Director of Lands and Surveys (Multi Zone-2), to judicial custody for 14 days in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.

The official, who was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday following searches at his premises, was produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE & ACB cases, Nampally, for judicial remand.

After the court remanded him to judicial custody for two weeks, he was shifted to Chanchalguda Central Jail.

ACB booked a case and arrested the official after searches at his premises unearthed assets of over Rs 13 crore, including Rs 1.54 crore cash.

The ACB conducted searches at his residence and at nine other places belonging to his relatives, benamis and other associates.

The agency said the searches were conducted as he had acquired assets disproportionate to his known sources of income by indulging in corrupt practices and dubious means.

The officials found net cash of about Rs 1.54 crore, bank balances amounting to Rs 2.29 crore, fixed deposits worth Rs 5.04 crore, gold ornaments weighing about 1.3 kg, and eight kg of silver in his house.

According to ACB, two lockers in the name of the accused officer’s wife were detected and will be opened in due course of investigation. In addition, one car was found.

Documents relating to five open plots in Ranga Reddy district, 1.24 acre of agricultural land at Maheshwaram, a residential flat measuring 2,500 square feet in a high-rise building at Puppalaguda, two flats each measuring 1,377 square feet in a high-rise building at Rajendra Nagar were found. One G-3 building located at TNGOs Colony, Gachibowli and a G+2 residential building at Chatrinaka were also detected.

The total value of the assets detected during the searches is Rs 13,05,67,100. The market value of the immovable properties is expected to be many times higher than the document value, the ACB said.
