New Delhi, June 16 (IANS) Ahead of the 12th International Yoga celebrations on June 21, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya is set to lead a special Fit India Cyclothon, a cycling event along the Mumbai’s iconic Worli seafront on Wednesday morning.

The event is expected to draw huge crowd, with more than 250 cyclists registering themselves to partake in the Fit India movement activities which will include cycling and performing yoga asanas.

The special edition of FIT India Cyclothon is being organised at Worli Coastal Cycle Track in Mumbai by the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

The ride, beginning from 6:30 a.m., will see around 250 cyclists from different walks of life pedal alongside the Sports Minister, cycling against the backdrop of the city’s scenic coastline.

The event will promote fitness as a way of life through community participation, cycling, yoga and other physical activities.

The cyclothon comes just days ahead of International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21.

The Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mandaviya has been championing cycling events, particularly on Sundays for some years, while advocating it as a simple yet powerful tool for both personal health and environmental sustainability.

Fit India Sundays on Cycle is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India, Yogasana Bharat, Raahgiri Foundation and MY Bharat.

The nationwide cycling initiative, launched by Mansukh Mandaviya in December 2024, has touched more than 30 lakh lives from over 3 lakh locations in the country.

The Mumbai cyclothon will serve as a curtain-raiser to the global celebrations of the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on June 21, which will witness participation from millions of people across more than 180 countries.

Over the past decade, the IDY has evolved into one of the world’s largest wellness movements, with India at its forefront.
