77 pc Enumeration Forms distributed in Karnataka as SIR progresses amid row
Bengaluru, July 7 (IANS) Amid the controversy surrounding the exercise, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Karnataka, on Tuesday said that 77.18 per cent of the Enumeration Forms (EFs) have been distributed as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state’s electoral rolls.
According to the CEO’s daily press release issued in the evening, Karnataka has a total of 5,54,32,314 electors in the electoral roll as of June 16, 2026. Enumeration Forms have been printed and distributed to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for the house-to-house verification exercise.
The house-to-house enumeration and digitisation of Enumeration Forms are being carried out simultaneously from June 30 to July 29.
The Election Department said that 4,27,82,130 Enumeration Forms, accounting for 77.18 per cent of the total, have been distributed so far. As many as 17,539 polling stations have achieved 100 per cent distribution of Enumeration Forms, while 13,249 polling stations have crossed the 90 per cent distribution mark.
On the digitisation front, 42,81,521 Enumeration Forms, or 7.72 per cent of the total, have been digitised. Two polling stations have completed 100 per cent digitisation, while 49 polling stations have achieved more than 90 per cent digitisation.
The CEO’s office also said that 1,46,143 Enumeration Forms, representing 0.26 per cent of the electorate, have been submitted online by voters.
During the verification process, officials identified 1,00,843 electors under the ASDDO category. In addition, 1,574 electors were found to be untraceable or absent, 49,658 had permanently shifted their residence, 42,120 were reported deceased, 7,063 were found to have already enrolled elsewhere, and 428 cases were classified under other categories.
It may be recalled that fresh controversy has erupted over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka after allegations that schoolchildren were used in the enumeration process at a government school in Belagavi district, leading to the Belagavi Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan ordering a probe.
Meanwhile, senior leaders of the NDA Karnataka delegation met Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in New Delhi on Tuesday and submitted a detailed memorandum highlighting alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Karnataka.
The delegation urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to immediately suspend the ongoing SIR process in the state, direct the re-verification of all enumeration forms already collected, and ensure mandatory door-to-door verification in accordance with the prescribed norms.
The memorandum further stated, “It is requested that Central Observers from other states be appointed for every district to oversee the entire SIR process and ensure that the revision is conducted in a fair, transparent, and impartial manner.”
The delegation also demanded strict legal and disciplinary action against all officials and political functionaries found responsible for violating the prescribed procedures or facilitating the alleged irregularities.
Amid the row, a press conference has been organised at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Bengaluru on Wednesday (July 8) to provide information on the ongoing Special Summary Revision (SIR) 2026 of electoral rolls conducted by the Election Commission of India. Chief Electoral Officer V. Anbu Kumar will address the media regarding developments surrounding SIR in the State.
