406 kg paneer brought from Rajasthan withheld by Ahmedabad civic body

Ahmedabad, Aug 21 (IANS) The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Food Department has withheld 406 kg of paneer worth around Rs 1.62 lakh after finding consignments being transported from Rajasthan for sale in different parts of the city, while three food establishments were sealed during separate inspections for violations including expired food stock and non-standard food samples.

The inspections were carried out on August 20 under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. At around 6:30 a.m., AMC officials inspected Tiger Travels and Jaykar Travels buses at a parking area near Dedki Nursery in Kankaria.

Officials found that Jaykar Travels was carrying one-kg packets of low-fat paneer from Bholenath Milk Products in Pratapnagar of Rajasthan’s Jodhpur district, which was being distributed for sale in different parts of Ahmedabad.

Tiger Travels was carrying one-kg packets of low-fat paneer labelled “Healthy Tasty” from Variety Products in Rajasthan’s Pali, which was being supplied to Visandas Trading Company in the Naroda area.

The Food Department collected samples of both varieties of paneer and sent them for laboratory testing. The remaining 406 kg of stock was withheld from sale pending the laboratory report.

The department put its market value at Rs 1,61,910.

In separate action, AMC sealed Shri Krishna Sales Corporation at Jai Mangal Estate on Rakhial Road after officials found 3 tonnes, or 3,000 kg, of expired food products at its premises. The inspection also found a lack of hygienic conditions.

The civic body also sealed Harihar Kathiyawadi in South Bopal after a paneer sample collected from the establishment earlier was declared non-standard.

J.B. Dairy and Parlour in Jivraj Park was sealed after an earlier sample of ghee taken from the establishment was declared non-standard.

“Inspections of food-related businesses across Ahmedabad would continue. Establishments found operating without an FSSAI licence or violating prescribed rules will face action under the Food Safety and Standards Act and the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations Act,” the civic body said.
